About

Houndslake Swim Team / Aiken Swim Association competes in the CSRA Swim League, a developmental swim league of teams in Augusta, Evans, North Augusta, and Aiken. We compete in Division 3 for the 2024 swim season.

Houndslake Swim Team is run by the five volunteers of our executive board. Members of the executive board are elected during our end of season association meeting (also known as our end of season party). Board members serve three-year terms.

History of the Team

Houndslake Swim Team was formed in 1960 as Aiken Swim Association. In the 1960's and 1970's, ASA competed in swimming and diving at the state level with the AAU, swimming out of the city pool at Eustis Park. Eventually, ASA ended it's affiliation with the AAU and joined other teams in creating the CSRA Summer Swim League.

After our home pool was demolished in the late 1970's, ASA spent a decade looking for a home. The team would practice as well as they could in family's backyard pools, riding to meets in the back of a dad's pickup truck. For a time in the 1980's, we even collaborated with Fermata Swim Team to form FAST (Fermata-Aiken Swim Team)!

In the 1990's, ASA found our home pool at Houndslake Country Club (HLCC), and began using the name Houndslake Swim Team. Even though we're well known now as the Houndslake Hounds, we're still a bit reluctant to let go of our old ASA name. By keeping that name alive, even just a tiny bit, we try to honor the memories of all the athletes who have swam with us over the decades.

Alumni of ASA and HST are all over Aiken and beyond. We're proud to have former swimmers return with their own children, and always happy to hear the countless stories of lifelong best friends or even married couples who met each other by our pool.

If you're ever in town over the summer, please stop by and cheer our current swimmers on. Who knows, you might find yourself jumping back in the water for an all-alumni relay team! We promise we won't make you do the butterfly!
